Wisdom

Notes of meeting on 22 June 2010

Picture of Mary with the child Jesus.
Jesus hands Mary a lily with the word 'Wisdom' written on it.

Thank you for the gift of Mary our Mother, the Seat of Wisdom.
May we be open to the gift of Wisdom - of doing God's will as Mary did.

Grant us a Spirit of Wisdom.

Romans 10 v 8 - 17

8But what does it say?
‘The word is near you,
on your lips and in your heart’
(that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. 11The scripture says, ‘No one who believes in him will be put to shame.’ 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. 13For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’
14 But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? 15And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’ 16But not all have obeyed the good news; for Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed our message?’ 17So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.

Lord grant us faith in you and help us to witness to you in the way you wish us to.

Prayer and Intercession

Notes of meeting on 15 June 2010

Picture of a field with a gate with Jesus standing in the field and the song from his Heart draws sheep to him.
Outside the field are many sheep, old, sick and lame which the other sheep bring through the gate and into the field.
The picture changes to a City of Light, Jesus is standing at an archway into the City welcoming the old, sick and lame into the City.
Our prayers and intercession help Jesus draw people to him and into the City.

God is our strength

Picture of a tree laden with all different kinds of fruit as a fruit is picked it is replaced by another fruit.

As we use our fruits and gifts in God’s service they give rise to even more fruit and gifts. God is generous and gives (gifts) in abundance
Lord help us use our fruits and gifts (particularly prayer and intercession) in your service and for the good of others.

Children of Jesus' Light

Notes of Meeting on 8 June 2010

Picture of the Cross with light around it and Mary is at the foot of the Cross praying. From the Cross comes Jesus' light of healing for the world.
Mary asks us as Children of Jesus' Light to pray for people wherever we are (even on the bus we can pray for those around us) that they may turn to the Cross of Jesus and his Light.

1 Thessalonians 5 v 1 - 11

5Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers and sisters,* you do not need to have anything written to you. 2For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3When they say, ‘There is peace and security’, then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labour pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape! 4But you, beloved,* are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; 5for you are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. 6So then, let us not fall asleep as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober; 7for those who sleep sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night. 8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. 9For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live with him. 11Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.

Picture of a hill with people gathered at its foot. Some of the people are given lamps which they use to ascend the hill. At the top of the hill they place their lamps in a circle and this greater light draws the others to the top of the hill.

Matthew 5 v 13 - 16

Salt and Light

13 ‘You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
14 ‘You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Mary calls us Children of Jesus' Light.
Lord we thank you for the gift of your Light open us to your Light take us from the darkness and clothe us in your light. Thank you for the light of your Cross, your love , your salvation, your Spirit.
Thank you Lord for the victory won from the Cross.
Thank you that you call us to be people of prayer and intercession for those around us who are in darkness you can use our prayers to help you draw them into your Light.
Amen
