Jesus our Saviour

Notes from celebration of the Mass on 14 December

Mass readings:

Zephaniah 3 v 1 - 2 , 9 - 13

1 Woe to the city of oppressors,
rebellious and defiled!
2 She obeys no one,
she accepts no correction.
She does not trust in the LORD,
she does not draw near to her God.

9 “Then I will purify the lips of the peoples,
that all of them may call on the name of the LORD
and serve him shoulder to shoulder.
10 From beyond the rivers of Cush[d]
my worshipers, my scattered people,
will bring me offerings.
11 On that day you, Jerusalem, will not be put to shame
for all the wrongs you have done to me,
because I will remove from you
your arrogant boasters.
Never again will you be haughty
on my holy hill.
12 But I will leave within you
the meek and humble.
The remnant of Israel
will trust in the name of the LORD.
13 They will do no wrong;
they will tell no lies.
A deceitful tongue
will not be found in their mouths.
They will eat and lie down
and no one will make them afraid.”

Matthew 21 v 28 - 32

28 “What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’
29 “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.

30 “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.

31 “Which of the two did what his father wanted?”

“The first,” they answered.

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Picture of Mary and Jesus. Mary brings Jesus to us that we may know him.
Picture of Jesus on the Cross his blood flowing from his body. His blood pours over us who are part of his body the Church bringing us cleansing and healing and which we in turn pass to others.

There is love peace and salvation flowing from the blood shed for you.

Have patience, God may not act as quickly as we would want.

Do we do the father's will?

How do we take correction? Do we accept or reject it?

Our mission may be found in the ordinary things of life.
