Theotokos Prayer Group 2021 - Update No. 41

Picture
A picture of a sheepfold with a large hedge around it, many sheep and lambs were making their way to Jesus the Good Shepherd. Jesus was calling continually and the sheep recognised Him, some of the Sheep didn’t hear Him calling or were busy eating the grass or frolicking and so didn’t see the ferocious wolf behind them. The Wolf inflicted great injuries upon some of the sheep and very quickly they ran to the sheepfold, one tiny lamb was covered in blood and Jesus used his crook to deflect the wolf and pull up the lamb! He gently bound their wounds and carried the little one close to His Heart.

John 10 v 11 - 15
11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is a hireling and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me, 15 as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Pope Francis and the Synod office in Rome are inviting the whole Church to become Synodal.

We are invited to journey together, listening to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in the lives of the people we meet.
The whole ‘Synod’ will be a two-year process beginning in every diocese in October 2021 and moving on to a national then international listening exercise.

Diocesan Year of the Eucharist
Bishop Robert Byrne will open our diocesan year of the Eucharist at the Synod opening Mass on the 17th October. Throughout the year we have the following aims:

Our Hopes
In this 'Year of the Eucharist' we hope to:
Revitalise and renew our faith through a deepening prayer and devotion of the Eucharist.
Grow as a Diocese in our love and appreciation of the Eucharist.
Deepen our appreciation of the liturgical celebration of the Eucharist through the rites.
Celebrate Eucharist as being at the heart of the life and mission of the Church, gathering people back.
Go out to love and serve the world nourished by the Eucharist.
Various events, invitations, publications and resources will be available this coming year. To receive these directly to your inbox sign up to the mailing list by email and keep an eye on the Diocesan website for the adverts as the year unfolds.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

1324 The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life." "The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch."

1325 "The Eucharist is the efficacious sign and sublime cause of that communion in the divine life and that unity of the People of God by which the Church is kept in being. It is the culmination both of God's action sanctifying the world in Christ and of the worship men offer to Christ and through him to the Father in the Holy Spirit."

1326 Finally, by the Eucharistic celebration we already unite ourselves with the heavenly liturgy and anticipate eternal life, when God will be all in all.

1327 In brief, the Eucharist is the sum and summary of our faith: "Our way of thinking is attuned to the Eucharist, and the Eucharist in turn confirms our way of thinking."
