Theotokos Prayer Group 2021 Update No.10 - Fourth Sunday of Lent

Fourth Sunday of Lent

John 3 v14 -21
14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
17 “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. 20 For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. 21 But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God.”

Reflection
In Jesus’ response to Nicodemus in this gospel text, Jesus draws on the familiar story of Moses in the desert to explain how one can be begotten of the Spirit. Jesus makes a bridge between himself, who will be lifted up on the cross, and the bronze serpent Moses used in the desert. The Lord told Moses to mount a bronze serpent on a pole and lift it up in the air. Anyone who had been bitten by a snake and then looked upon the serpent would be cured. (Numbers 21:8-9) Jesus is saying that, in a like manner, he will be lifted up on a cross, and anyone who looks on him with faith will be saved from death and will have eternal life.

Reflection Questions

Do we live in the light or the darkness?
Do we look to Jesus for salvation, healing and forgiveness?

Picture

A picture of Jesus carrying His Cross, the weight is cutting into His shoulder, as Jesus moves onward a child of about three years of age moves forward and kicks the Cross, shortly after Our Lord falls to the ground, the little boy sees Our Holy Mother’s stricken face and the terrible pain in Her Heart, not knowing or understanding the little one starts to cry, but something stirs deep in him and he becomes determined to help, he sets his face and holds his shoulders back and walks on with Jesus, as he walks he is covered by the shadow of the Cross, the crowd who had been very noisy become silent and awe struck that such a small child could behave in such a manly way.

“My dear children, my Heart nearly stopped when I witnessed my Son’s distress and in such a state of pain, my Heart was in actual pain as I couldn’t get to Him, then this little man so small did what he could in my stead and walked with Jesus keeping Him company in these His painful last steps upon the Earth.
My children could you become little and loving like that small child, he couldn’t do much to alleviate My Son’s distress physically but he did everything spiritually by walking with Him on His last journey to the Cross. This child represents you my children, you kick against the crosses in your lives, some are heavy in deed, some less so, but if you carry them in unison with my Son how you will grow in heavenly attributes and so draw down blessings in abundance and cause your families and poor souls to convert  at last to my Son, and then to see that He is their Saviour. My children when you arrive in Paradise to be with my Son, all pain and sorrow is turned into Everlasting Joy, follow Him in this Season of Lent, I am with you all.
Your loving Mother Mary."
