Luke 4 v 16-22
16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read,
17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips....
Lord thank you that you are the anointed one, our saviour, our redeemer.
Lord anoint us and the world with your Spirit , set us free from the sin weakness lack of faith that binds us give us new sight to see you as the light in the darkness.

We meet for a Prayer Meeting every Tuesday evening at St Mary's Presbytery, Major Street, Stockton on Tees. Start 8pm (Rosary 7.30pm).

* all Priests and Religious
* the restoration and healing of the world, for justice, compassion and peace.Lord restore your world.Lord restore your people.We pray against all evil in the world and in particular … add here any particular intention i.e. illegal drugs trade, wars, poverty, abortion, unemployment, etc..Come Holy Spirit renew the face of the earth.
* all victims of abortion - the children, mothers, fathers, families, those carrying out and assisting abortions.
* Please join in us in praying this prayer for persecuted Christians around the world
Father in Heaven, you make your sun shine on good and bad alike.
Your Son Jesus Christ died for us all and in his glorious Resurrection He still retains the five wounds of his Passion.
With his divine power he now sustains all those who suffer persecution and martyrdom for the sake of their fidelity to the faith of the Church.
Merciful and mighty Father, do not allow Cain to return again to murder helpless Abel, innocent Abel.
May persecuted Christians around the world remain, like Mary, their Mother, together at the foot of the cross of Christ the Martyr.
Comfort those menaced by violence and those oppressed by uncertainty.
May your Holy Spirit of love make fruitful the witness and the blood of those who die forgiving.
